The Columbus Symphony Chorus, currently celebrating its 50th season, continues to excel under the direction of Maestro Ronald J. Jenkins. Under Jenkins’ leadership, the Chorus has grown both in the quality of its performances and in the diversity of its classical repertoire.
The 130-member Chorus, comprised entirely of volunteer singers from central Ohio, performs major works from Bach to Mahler. Past performances have included the requiems of Brahms, Verdi, Fauré, Mozart, and Duruflé; the Bach B Minor Mass; Mozart’s Grand Mass in C Minor and Coronation Mass; Haydn’s Lord Nelson and Harmonie Mass; works by Rossini, Orff, Walton, Britten, and Prokofiev; and concert performances of operas.
For the 2010-2011 season, the Chorus will participate in a number of concerts with the Columbus Symphony. These concerts include performances of Handel’s immortal “Messiah,” under the direction of Ronald Jenkins, on November 20 and 21 in the Ohio Theatre with soloists Heidi Grant Murphy, soprano; Jay Carter, countertenor; C. Andrew Blosser, tenor; Andrew Foster-Williams, bass-baritone; the 27th Annual Holiday Pops, also under the direction of Ronald Jenkins, on December 3, 4, and 5 in the Ohio Theatre; and the Verdi “Requiem”, on March 11, 12, and 13, 2011.
Chorus auditions for the 2010-2011 season will be held Monday evening, August 30. Click here for more information.
