Dvorak’s New World SymphonySponsored by Battelle Series: Classical
Jean-Marie Zeitouni, conductor Beethoven - Overture to Fidelio Canadian native Jean-Marie Zeitouni returns for the second time in 2009 to conduct an orchestral standard, Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9, named "From the New World". This symphony, inspired by American folk songs, Native American melodies, and African-American spirituals, was premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1893 to applause that was described as "perpetual." Barry Douglas also joins the orchestra to perform a tour de force, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
