Youth Orchestra (Grades 9-12)

Rehearsals
Wednesday evenings, 7-9:30pm and select weekends at various locations including the Vern Riffe Center and area high schools.
Performances
3-4 performances at the Davidson Theatre (formerly Capitol) in the Vern Riffe Center.

Audition Requirements
- All Instruments (including Mallet Percussion): All major and melodic minor scales and chromatic scale (2 or more octaves from memory)
- A movement from a concerto, sonata, etude or other solo piece that clearly indicates the student’s level of ability
- Sight-reading
- Auditions must be unaccompanied.
*Players who double on utility instruments such as piccolo, English horn, bass or E-flat clarinet, contrabassoon, etc. are encouraged to bring those instruments and prepare a short solo.
*Percussionists should prepare a solo or orchestral excerpt on snare drum, xylophone AND timpani.
Cadet Orchestra (Grades 7-10)

Monday evenings, 7:00-9:15pm and select weekends at various locations including Hilliard Davidson High School and various local high schools.
Performances
3-4 performances in Columbus locations to be announced at a later date.

Audition Requirements
- Strings: Major scales up to 4 flats and 4 sharps (3 octaves from memory, 2 octaves for basses)
- Woodwinds, Brass and Mallet Percussion: Major scales up to 4 flats and 4 sharps (multiple octaves if possible)
- A movement from a concerto, sonata, etude or other solo piece that clearly indicates the student’s level of ability
- Sight-reading
- Auditions must be unaccompanied.
*Players who double on utility instruments such as piccolo, English horn, bass or E-flat clarinet, contrabassoon, etc. are encouraged to bring those instruments and prepare a short solo.
*Percussionists should prepare a solo on snare drum, xylophone AND timpani and demonstrate knowledge of all rudiments on the snare drum.
Chamber Strings (Grades 6-9)

3-4 performances on the campus of The Ohio State University and throughout Central Ohio.

- One three-minute solo excerpt.
- Sight-reading
- Auditions must be unaccompanied.
Junior Strings (Grades 3-6)

3-4 performances on the campus of The Ohio State University and throughout Central Ohio.

- Major scales from the following: A, D, G, C (as many octaves as possible)
- One prepared solo piece
- Sight-reading
- Auditions must be unaccompanied.
