Late Music: Composers and Compositions at the End of Life
Part of the Last Notes Festival – November 18-19, 2016
In the week prior to each festival, The Ohio State University will host a free lecture given by a professor with expertise in the field the CSO will be exploring in the upcoming festival.
The work that artists do at the ends of their lives holds a special, even morbid, fascination. With an emphasis on Tchaikovsky's Pathétique Symphony and Mozart's Magic Flute, poignant pieces that date from the last year of their respective composers' lives,Dr. Arved Ashby, PhD, Professor of Music at The Ohio State University, will explore the importance of compositions that seem both to offer confessional truths and summarize the author's lives.
