Joyce Fishman grew up in New Albany, Indiana – a small community with a very strong public school orchestra program. She attended Indiana University School of Music, where she earned bachelor's and master's degrees. After playing in the Louisville Orchestra for a few years, she and her husband moved to London, England, to continue studies. There she became a member of a string quartet associated with the Ballet Rombert, and toured the country with the troupe.
Upon returning to the states, she played in the Minneapolis Chamber Symphony, and later the Avanti String Quartet and the Kalamazoo (MI) Symphony. In 1980, she won the audition to join the Columbus Symphony. Joyce and her husband live in Bexley where they raised their two sons. She enjoys bicycling, hiking, traveling, and teaching private lessons.
