Olev Viro

Violin

Olev L. Viro joined the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) as a full-time violinist in 1984 and remains active as a violinist and conductor. Currently part-time with the CSO, Olev also performs regularly as Principal Second Violin with the New Albany Symphony Orchestra. He has been on faculty at Capital, Otterbein, and Denison Universities. Mr. Viro has been Music Director of the Greater Columbus Community Orchestra since the Fall of 1999 and has premiered and commissioned numerous works. He was a Visiting Conductor at Denison University and is a member of the International Eduard Tubin Society.

Olev previously created the Sonus Artis project, presenting musical programs and outreach in Ohio and Estonia, collaborating with universities, churches, schools, arts organizations, and other private and public institutions. Mr. Viro has a Bachelor of Arts from the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Binghamton and a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. He has brokered trade credit and political risk insurance since 2008 and is currently with JZJ Insurance Services.
